Living in Wellington

Friday 3 April 2009

I guess it’s time to admit it:

I’ve been living in Wellington since January now and I’m gonna stay here. :-) I found myself a nice room where I’m flatting with two other people in the middle of the city (1 minute to Cuba Street).
Now I just need to get a job

Acknowledged: The weather is a little warmer in Auckland – not as windy and chilly, but Wellington just has more flair to it. It’s not as stretched out as Auckland and you can walk almost everywhere (if you don’t include the suburbs…)

For nightlife you have two basic centers: The party crowd at Courtney Place and Cuba Street, which is a little more alternative. The cultural scene is pretty active and stretches from theatre plays, concerts and festivals, via comedians and movie quiz to the culinary arts with heaps of varieties. You even can create your own meal at a mongolian restaurant – just select your ingredients, hand them over to the Hot Stone and they will cook it for you.

At the waterfront you can see lots of skaters (be it on skateboards or rollerblades) and what else could you do better in “The (other) Windy City” than sailing? Just stay out of the Cook Strait! ;)

With just 15 minutes by bus to the airport and those cheap flights to Auckland or Christchurch (they sell tickets from $29 one-way if you’re flexible enough! – That’s about 13 EUR!!), you can always drop by at your friends -to bad though, that it’s about the same price to get from the airport in Auckland into town – and it takes as long too! :(

What the heck does “still two years” mean?
